The Somerfield Coat is a mix between a robe and a housecoat. Designed to be thrown over your garment for a bit of extra coverage and style. It has a relaxed fit bodice with a deep V front that ties at the front. It features facings with mitered corners on the hem and splits on both sides.

View A: 7/8 length sleeves with a large hem turn up. Flat front.

View B: Mid length flared sleeves with a narrow rolled hem. Flat front.

View C: 7/8 length sleeves with a large hem turn up. Princess detail design lines with in-seam pockets.

View D: Mid length flared sleeves with a narrow rolled hem. Princess detail design lines with in-seam pockets.

Suggested Fabric:

Light to medium weight woven fabrics with good drape – silk crepe de chine, washed linen, soft cotton, soft hemp blends, lyocell. Stiff fabrics are not recommended.

Please note: If you’re using a patterned fabric with a repeat that you’d like to match, you may need more fabric than what is suggested above. Use your discretion.

Fabric Requirements:

See chart in images

Notions:

Thread, Optional: Lightweight interfacing for less structured fabrics to use on the facings and pocket openings. Stay tape is also optional for the pocket openings.

Sizes available:

A to K (see size chart in images)

FITTING NOTES:

This pattern has been drafted for a height of 5’7 and will finish just under the knee. Personally I like to add 10-20cm of length to the front and back pattern pieces for the coat to finish further below the knee/at the calves, but due to size constraints of A0 size paper I have left the pattern pieces to fit within.

Views A and B have been drafted for a A/B cup size.

Views C and D have been drafted for a C/D cup size.

There has been 4-5 inches of ease factored in. For a sleeker fit, you may prefer to go down a size.

It’s recommended to make a toile first in an inexpensive fabric to work out any fitting alterations you may need, before cutting into your chosen fabric.

This digital pattern comes with an illustrated set of instructions, a printing and assembling guide and two options for printing – a PDF file for printing at home, designed to fit both A4 and Letter sized paper (up to 57 pages). And 2-3 large format A0 PDF files to take to the copy shop if you’d prefer not to assemble multiple sheets.

Download and save these files to a desktop or laptop computer. Not suitable for smart phones and iPads unless you have the correct program to open a zip folder.

This patterns is for personal use only. Not to be used for commercial purposes.
